The Southwest Power Pool

Southwest Power Pool (SPP) is one of ten Regional Councils that make up The North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC). NERC was formed in 1968, and its mission is to promote the reliability of the electricity supply for North America. The membership of NERC is unique. It is a not-for-profit corporation whose owners are the 10 Regional Councils. Members of these Regional Councils and one affiliate Council come from all segments of the electricity supply industry and account for virtually all the electricity supplied in the United States, Canada, and a portion of Baja California Norte, Mexico. SPP consists of 54 member entities located in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. The region monitors, coordinates, promotes and communicates information on the reliability of the electricity supply systems through the dedicated efforts of more than 350 people from member systems. Security personnel located in Little Rock, Ark. provide regional coordination of SPP's 18 control areas, balancing 40,000 MW of electric generation and demand.
