Recycling

  • For more than 30 years, we've been an industry leader in developing new uses and markets for fly ash, one of the byproducts of producing electricity. We currently recycle more than 175,000 tons of fly ash every year for use in construction, including as a partial replacement for cement in concrete and a soil stabilizer.
  • KCP&L recycles old wooden utility poles into picnic tables, nesting boxes for birds and other goods useful to the general public.
  • As a standard business practice, we use natural substances for cleaning equipment and tools. Daily cleaning also helps reduce environmental impact.
  • Our purchasing policies help minimize the byproducts that leave our facilities. KCP&L's on-site contractors remove their waste materials for proper disposal.
  • To reduce ozone-depleting byproducts, we have reduced the use of products in spray cans.
