- You can help speed the restoration process by calling 1-888-LIGHTKC
(1-888-544-4852) to report your outage. Your phone call is the best way for us to know you are without power and to determine the full extent of the damage in your neighborhood. We encourage you to use our automated phone system. It feeds information directly into our outage reporting system, allowing our crews to react faster.
- If you leave your home during the outage, unplug all heat-producing appliances (irons, stoves, etc.). This reduces fire danger if power is restored while you're away.
- Turn off lights and unplug appliances and sensitive electronic devices, such as computers, to prevent electrical overload damage when power is restored. Leave one light switched on so you know when your power is back on.
- Appliances with surge protection may trip automatically when power goes out. If the appliance doesn't turn on when power is restored, you may need to reset a circuit breaker, replace a fuse or press a reset button.
- Avoid opening your freezer and refrigerator doors as much as possible and if necessary, use ice, snow or dry ice to preserve perishable foods.
- When using dry ice, protect your hands by wearing gloves to prevent burns. Keep dry ice away from direct contact with food as it causes freezer burn.
Reminder: Call toll-free 1-888-LIGHTKC (1-888-544-4852) to report outages, flickering lights, lines down or other damage-related problems.
